There are various accounts of what the Pilgrims feasted on that first Thanksgiving Day celebration

in 1621, but I'm here to give you the definitive

list.

Ready or not? Here we go. Freshly killed deer, assorted wildfowl, and seafood like fish muscles oysters and lobster.

Hear that czar?

Lobster. They eat lobster.

Vegetables like onions, beans, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, carrots, and peas.

Corn was plentiful at the first harvest and would have been served but not in the way most people

enjoy it now. No in those days the corn would have been removed

from the cob and turned into cornmeal, which was then boiled and pounded into a thick corn mush or porridge that was

occasionally sweetened with molasses.

They didn't have pumpkin pie for a number of reasons.

One, they didn't have the butter and the wheat flour to make the crust.

And two, historians say the settlers had yet to construct an oven for baking.

They did have pumpkin, though.

According to some accounts, early English settlers improvised by hollowing out pumpkins

and filling the shells with milk honey and spices to make a

custard. Then they roasted the gourds whole in hot ashes. Mm mmm delicious. One very

popular dish today was not at the first Thanksgiving.

Potatoes.
