It is that most holy of days, June 6th.

It was June 6th, 1944, which came to be known as D-Day.

Allied forces launched a combined naval, air and land assault on Nazi-occupied France.

The D-Day stand simply for day, and the term was used to describe the first day of any

large military operation.

Early on June 6th, Allied airborne forces parachuted into drop zones across northern

France, ground troops landed across five assault beaches, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and

Sword.

By the end of that bloody day, the Allies had established a foothold along the coast and could begin

their advance into France.

Of all the stories related to this day and 79 years later, this one particularly caught

our attention, a 102-year-old World War II veteran returning to Omaha Beach 79 years after

D-Day.

World War II vet Richard Stewart is flying to France, at 102 years old it's been almost

eight decades since he first landed on Omaha Beach.

I'm so thankful that the Lord took me over and brought me back all in one piece in one

mind.

Richard is one of only about 2000 African-American soldiers deployed to Normandy following

D-Day.

He served in a segregated army unit, a witness to the destruction.

They did not let us see anything, anything equipment, anything had been destroyed.
