How did he get his start, though?

The old-fashioned way, by getting really, really, really good at it just through old-fashioned hard work.

I found that it's really like you've got to go to the woodshed and just write every day and just write and just write and just write.

And there's no shortcut. It's really tough to develop your own voice. It took me a few years to do it. And it took me having people in my professional life who were willing to criticize my writing in a constructive way.

and his weekend plans to empty the tanks on his camper trailer.
