So Title 42 was a Trump era regulation and it was actually originally a COVID response to

the public health emergency over COVID.

So the officials looked at the border and they said, oh my gosh, we have people just coming over and staying in these holding cells and being brought into the country during this time when this unknown virus is wreaking havoc globally.

So what the Trump administration did with Title 42 is they gave the authority to border patrol agents and to those working at border stations to immediately

expel incoming migrants back into Mexico. So what it did was it essentially took a very,

what could be a very long, hours-long process for these border patrol agents, and they had the

authority under the public health emergency to just turn them right around and in about 10 minutes,

get them back out of the country, back over the border.

There were a lot of criticisms of it, whether or not it worked, but it is set to expire on May 11th when the Biden administration has declared,

well, now COVID's done, no more public health emergency.

So Title 42 is among the many COVID-era regulations and, quote-unquote, benefits that is going away as of May 11, 2023.
