Summary

We stand in solidarity against racial injustice and will be postponing the next episode so that we may take the time to listen and learn.

We can all make a difference starting with ourselves and starting at home.

The series: "Confronting Racism," on the Ted Radio Hour with Guy Raz is a powerful starting point.

Hey everyone. Welcome to At Home Podcast. Welcome. I have to be honest, I don't really know what to

0:07.4

say or do. Our hearts have been so heavy this week. But really, you know, Lyndon, I feel that it's not

0:14.8

enough just to feel sad or upset. Yeah, it's appalling the violence and the racism that has not only taken George Floyd's

0:24.5

life, but so many others. And, you know, while the rage is understandable, I hope that we can join

0:29.9

together to be loud in ways that are peaceful and nonviolent. We're better than using violence to fight

0:36.2

violence. And you and I have been having more

0:38.9

conversations about race lately, which is good just to have conversations. And even though we're not

0:45.8

black, nor have we personally experienced violent racism, an assault on any innocent person

0:51.0

is an assault on humanity. It's a human issue. It means that we're not seeing

0:56.2

our fellow people for who they are on the inside, rather, they're just being judged and harassed

1:00.2

because of what they look like. And nowhere in this world should that be acceptable.

1:04.7

You know, we've been lucky enough to grow up in cities with families and social groups that are

1:08.9

diverse and where our differences are celebrated

1:11.8

instead of attacked. And I know a huge part of that is simply because of being born white,

1:16.5

but honestly it sickens me to know that there are people on this planet that are not treated

1:21.1

equally because of their race or gender or sexuality. So how do we proliferate that positive perspective and equal treatment and celebration

1:30.8

of races? It's clearly not enough to say, you know, we're not racist, so we're doing our part.

1:36.6

We know we have to be more active. And in the same way we practice kindness, compassion, tact,

1:42.3

we have to educate ourselves and practice racial literacy.

1:46.2

And just like we look to doctors and scientists when it comes to things like practicing healthy hygiene and protecting ourselves from viruses,

1:53.0

we should look to experts and leaders to speak to issues of race and justice.

1:57.6

So in trying to find the words and just facts are just, we've just been trying to do
