For the Tik-Tok creators fighting a potential ban, it's not just business, it's personal.

From American Public Media, this is Marketplace Tech. I'm Megan McCarty Carino. Tic-Tock has a lot going on legally these days.

Last week saw a fresh round of lawsuits alleging the short-form video app harms children.

And then there's the federal law which could ban the

app if its China-based owner doesn't divest by January.

Tik-Toc has sued to block that law. We heard oral arguments in September.

The company is joined by eight Tik-Tok creators as plaintiffs in the case,

and one of them is Tolia Cadet.

She has nearly 140,000 followers on Tik-talk,

where she produces lifestyle videos,

focused on her love of books and travel.

For me, the most important thing is the community I've been able to build.

They're the reason why I post every day, even when you don't feel like making content,

it's like, no, I to connect with my people every day and what I really

enjoy about my community on Tik-Toc is the conversations that we have every day. Meeting followers in real life, they tell me the most amazing things.

They're like, I just moved to DC, your event guides have really been helpful in me finding things to do,

making friends, a lot of my book content.

People tell me I'm reading more because of you.

I showcase a lot of my book club on Tik-Tok as well.

They're like, we started our own book club and we get to talk about what they're

reading and I give them tips for leading their book club. So for me it's the community.

That's the biggest piece of it for me.
