Hey, friends, welcome back. Appreciate you being here today

in Matthew chapter 10, and we talked a little bit, a last episode about these guys, this core team

that Jesus put together that were his protégés, that were his apostles. He calls them apostles here, these sent ones,

and he's actually in the business now of sending them for their very first excursion. And I love

that about the Lord, is that he was the master trainer. He trained them and then he gave them little snippets of what

ministry would be like. He sent them here throughout all Galilee, which was their local region.

Later on, in Luke, in the book of Luke, he'll send them out as the 70. They will be a part of that group and go out to

all of Judea. Of course, the long-range plan is to send them to the uttermost part of the world.

And the Lord just knows what we need, what we can handle. He knows how to take us through the paces.

And it's important for us to look then at what were these instructions as he's sending them away for the first time.

I picture a parent giving instructions to a kindergartner, going away to school for the first time or to a college student, going away from home for the first time.

And all of those instructions, right, that parents

give. So let's look at what Jesus says to his apostles here in verse number five. So the Bible says

these 12, Jesus sent forth and commanded them. The word command here is a very interesting word.

It would be a word that a military commander would use. And so this is not a small thing.

This is Jesus kind of putting his troops together, sending them out to battle. And if you think

that that's far-fetched, when you start to hear the

language of the instructions that Jesus gave, you'll realize, wow, this is very serious work.

Maybe that's one of the reasons why the Bible so often refers to believers as soldiers
