I'm Paige Browning and snow has pummeled the mountains,

which came a little too late for skiers who've been waiting since so Christmas time for good snow. We'll talk lessons

from the snow season in our feature story today. First, the roundup of today's top stories.

Today is Thursday, March 12th. Wild winds have turned fatal this week. Authorities say a tree fell

on a car near Highway 2 in Monroe, killing the driver.

It happened along Florence Acres Road. And in Carnation, Eastside Fire and Rescue spent nearly

two hours last night pulling someone from a trailer that got crushed by part of a 70-foot-tall

tree. At last check, that person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The worst of the winds have passed, but about 14,000 homes and businesses in Western Washington are still without power as of this afternoon. Those include Crystal Mountain and the subunate-Snowqualmi ski resorts, which had to limit operations today because of power outages. G Gus clocked in above 60 miles an hour in some places,

and the mountains are covered in a winter wonderland of snow with many more inches on the way.
