Welcome back to the morning show podcast. My name is Anthony. I'm Carla Marie and today is Thursday,

April 7th, 2022. We have a very, very fun show today. So we are playing cover lovers because

it's a Thursday and that's what we like to do on Thursdays. We've also got a lot

of really cool stories that I think you're going to enjoy. I like doing stories where people are like,

oh, I'm going to try to be cooler on my friends. It'd be like, hey, did you know? The Core 4. The four

headlines you need to know. A fire at a power plant in Puerto Rico has left over 350,000 people without power. Now,

power outages in America obviously aren't that rare, but to put this in perspective,

350,000 people represents over 12% of the entire population of the island. The outage is the latest and most recent

in what has been months of power outages across the island. If you've ever had a family member

on a home respirator or in need of insulin, you know how life-threatening power outages can be.

The craziest thing to think about when it comes to the power situation in Puerto Rico is that a similar fire in 2016 caused an island-wide power outage.

Then, in 2017, Hurricane Maria destroyed most of the power grid, leaving some people in Puerto Rico without power for almost an entire year.

And although emergency repairs have been made to Puerto Rico's electric grid to get it operational,

actual reconstruction hasn't even started yet nearly five years after the hurricane leveled much of the island.

The fact that it's an island obviously causes logistical obstacles.

And along with the fact that the infrastructure

hasn't been neglected in years, it seems like the people of Puerto Rico can't catch a break.

150 eagles were killed from one company's wind turbines in eight different states. That company

pleaded guilty this week and will pay $8 million in fines and restitution.

ESI Energy, a subsidiary of Next Era Energy, received five years of probation on three accounts of violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

This feels like a gut punch because obviously we want renewable energy, but we don't
