How kids pick up certain jokes and games, seemingly across geographic boundaries and sometimes

generations, even before the age of the internet, is a mysterious phenomenon. And it's one that

certain scholars have studied as far back as the late 1800s, with William Wells-Newles'

Games and Songs of American Children. How, for example, have so many kids for generations

learned how to draw that cool S, you know, the one where you draw six lines and then connect

them to make a kind of graffiti-looking S shape? If you know what I'm talking about, where did
