China has discovered a new mineral on the moon. Found among samples brought back from their

2020-Chang-O-5 lunar mission, the transparent crystal was confirmed as a new mineral last week

by the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature, and Classification, or CNMNC.

Chang'U-5 was the first mission to return lunar samples to Earth since Russia's Luna program in 1976.

As such, many new discoveries are likely to continue as new technology is applied to these more recent samples.
