A new study has shown that technically speaking, humans could one day evolve to become venomous creatures. The new study just published

in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences looked into how oral venom glands evolved in

animals writ large, finding that, quote, oral venom systems likely originated from a gene

regulatory network conserved across amniotes, end quote.

Amniotes meaning animals whose embryos develop within an amnion, so birds, reptiles, and mammals.

There are thousands of venomous animal species, from snakes and spiders to slow loruses,

the only known venomous primate, and they often use venom in different ways, so it's tough to study venom in general,

and also that diversity makes it pretty exciting that the researchers have found one common genetic ancestor
