We seem to be in something of a vaccine renaissance recently,

with progress being made on vaccines for HIV, Lyme disease, and even cancer.

And now, a vaccine for bees.

Not like to help humans who may be allergic, have better outcomes after being stung by a bee

or something like that, but rather a vaccine for honeybees themselves to keep them safe from one of their top killers.

You've probably heard about the alarming decline in honeybee populations over the past several years.

From April 2020 to April 2021, beekeepers in the U.S. lost a little more than half of their managed honeybee colonies,

according to nonprofit Bee informs annual colony loss and management survey.

Now, that was a historic loss, which improved a little bit this year,

but still half of all their colonies and 40% this year, that is huge.

And while Save the Bees trends over the last several years often focus on honey, honey is just a small part of what honeybees do in the U.S.

honey in 2019. and at the time,
