Hi everybody, welcome back to Ask Alicia, the weekly series where you ask me questions and I answer them.

0:05.2

Maybe! Let's get to your first question this week. First question for this week comes from Mari.

0:10.4

Hi Mari. Mari says, hi Alicia. Do you have any advice for studying prepositions?

0:15.9

I understand the basic ways to use two, four, and by, but it's really hard for me to choose the correct words quickly, especially when speaking.

0:24.6

Super good question. Yeah, prepositions are really tough, I think, for a lot of people.

0:29.6

So let's talk about some tips to make sure that you can get some good practice in with these words.

0:34.6

So as you mentioned, there are words like two, four, by, we have

YouTube about how to do that. But as far as studying these words and studying how and when to use them, one of the things

1:07.2

1:10.8

So what do I mean by studying the words that are around the preposition?

1:14.6

So when you're learning a new sentence pattern or when you're learning a new grammar form, for example,

1:19.6

it's normal to want to break down the sentence, right?

1:22.6

Like the part of speech, this is the subject, this is the object, here's a preposition, and so on.

1:26.6

And that's great to do. But also, once you kind of have a feel for the subject, this is the object, here's a preposition, and so on. And that's great to do.

1:28.3

But also, once you kind of have a feel for the grammar, once you kind of get the hang of things,

1:33.3

try to practice full sentences or full phrases.

1:37.3

Just try saying them out loud or try writing them down.
