I'm Elise Feebck with the Washington Post and this is the Daily 202 for Tuesday, July 3rd.

James is on vacation this week, but I'll be here instead with the day's top headlines.

Number one, President Trump's longtime lawyer and fixer has signaled that he is willing to

cooperate with federal prosecutors, even if doing that goes against Trump's interests.

In an interview published Monday, Michael Cohen told ABC News that his family is

his priority.

Cohen said, to be crystal clear, my wife, my daughter, and my son, and this country have my first loyalty.

Previously, Cohen had vowed to do anything he could to protect Trump.

Cohen is under intensifying scrutiny from federal prosecutors in Manhattan

who are examining his business practices.

Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller the 3rd is also investigating episodes involving Cohen as part of his probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In New York, federal investigators are scrutinizing Cohen for possible bank fraud, wire fraud, and

campaign finance violations as they examine his efforts to squelch damaging information about Trump in the

run up to the 2016 election.

In Washington, Mueller has been examining Cohen's role in at least two episodes involving Russian interests.

Number two, the first face-to-face contact between U.S. officials and their North Korean counterparts since President Trump's

meeting with leader Kim Jong-un appears to have taken place. The State
