In this month's series, I will detail cases of murderers who were caught, sent to prison, and then inexplicably set free to kill again.

This time, I'll tell you about a woman whose criminal history played out over almost six decades.

In total, she was tied to scores of thefts and scams, four deaths by suicide, and at least three murders.

She walked after her first charge of homicide when she claimed she'd only killed her lover in self-defense.

A few years later, she was tried and convicted for the murder of her employer and sentenced to life in prison.

She nevertheless was released after 17 years and continued on her criminal path, ultimately committing an even more brutal murder.

Louise Pete was a black widow, a con artist, and a murderist, but she was so much more.
