Large parts of Northeastern Italy are counting the cost of the devastating flooding,

following heavy rain, which caused more than 20 rivers to overflow and hundreds of landslides.

Some areas are still underwater. At least 13 people have died and thousands have been evacuated.

Rescue operations are underway, but they're being hampered by impossible roads, power cuts,

and mobile coverage disruption. Nikolaus Santorro is cleaning up his in-laws flooded house

just south of Belonia, with no help from the authorities. Yesterday, everything was floating around

because there was still water inside the house, was still like one meter and the water left.

There was 40 centimeters of mud and it was so difficult to walk around.

Now we are trying to clean everything. I really need to thank a lot of people in the neighborhood,

which are really helping us a lot, but no one of from the state, the region is coming here to help us.
