Hey everybody, this is the Tom Hartman Program.

I'm Jefferson Smith. Sitting for Tom honored to be here and very appreciative of you

being here whether you're listening in Poughkeepsie or at CPT ain't afraid of me or whether you're listening in Michigan or

our friends in Seattle. Now folks who have honored us with their presence on days when I have been here know that I like to talk about democracy, the first principle.

To reframe the political debate as not merely right versus left, not even merely business

versus labor, not even merely ownership versus working, or environment versus other stuff. But democracy versus opponents to

democracy. People were trying to erode the idea that we should decide

together how things work.

We have a guest.

His name is David.

He wrote a book, Alt America. He has made the case that in fact we have dug ourselves a really deep

hole and that we need to dig ourselves out of it. He agrees, essentially, that we are facing forces that are opposed to democracy,

and that is one of the things that has changed about the political debate.

guard interview in the guardian that there is in fact an assault on democracy
