| 1:01.3 | Philippa was married to John I of Portugal in 1387, and while the marriage was not a love match, |

| 1:12.4 | son Edward would go on to become King of Portugal after his father's death in 1433. |
| 1:19.5 | But Philippa, sadly, would not have the opportunity to see her son become king. |
| 1:24.7 | She had died 16 years earlier of the plague before he ascended the throne. |
| 1:31.2 | On her deathbed, Philippa called her sons to her bedside so she could give them her blessing |
| 1:36.3 | and to present them with jewel and crested swords, which they would use in their upcoming |
| 1:41.4 | knighthoods. She also gave them each a portion of the true cross, |
| 1:47.9 | instructing them to preserve their faith and fulfill the duties of their rank. |
| 1:53.7 | One of those sons present was the future King Edward of Portugal. |
| 1:58.9 | Often referred to as Edward the King philosopher or Edward the eloquent. |
| 2:04.4 | It would appear that this king had heeded his mother's deathbed instructions. |
