Hello and welcome to this week in Ringer Culture. I'm Liz Kelly bringing you the highlights

0:07.8

from the Ringer Podcast Network. This is our last roundup of 2017 but we're still putting

0:12.7

up a ton of good stuff on the site before the year officially ends. We've added to our

0:16.7

2017 year interview like the most underrated albums, works collaborations and even best sweaters

0:22.3

of 2017. You can check it all out on theringer.com. So we finished last week's roundup talking

0:28.2

Star Wars and we are starting this show with the same. On the big picture this week, Sean

0:32.4

Fantasy talked with Star Wars, the last Jedi director, Ryan Johnson, about introducing new elements

0:37.8

1:21.6

was for me. But then there's a lot more obviously. It's a big complicated question and that's one that

1:28.4

I kind of answered just by making this movie. This is kind of what Star Wars feels like to me,

1:34.0

I guess. Did you have to channel your 13-year-old self? Yeah, you always had to check back. It

1:38.5

was an invaluable resource, having that sort of internal compass of does this feel right to me.

1:46.1

And it's tricky because every single fan has a different compass because everyone grew up

1:50.6

also in a slightly different time. I was 10 years old when Return of the Jedi came out, I think.

1:58.1

So that was, I was in prime age for that movie. So, but then as I became an adult, Empire was the
