President Biden delivered his first state of the Union address on Tuesday night.

Yes for you those keeping score last night was just first one.

You don't give a state of the union when you first become president after you've served

a year.

And his message mixed tough talk on Russia with pieces of his domestic agenda.

Here's what we wrote today in first read.

Last night state of the union address didn't reflect the president who believes his job

has been redefined by the war in Ukraine at least not yet.

And that's probably the most important way to review this speech.

It's why a lot of people have called it felt like two speeches or cut and paste.

I think this is a white house that's not fully yet accepting the premise that Ukraine

will totally transform this presidency as a senior official told me yesterday.

It's been six days today seven.

They're like maybe it does, but we're not there yet.

Outside of Ukraine, which only took up about 20% of the speech by touch down inflation,

health care costs, a little bit of COVID.

So let's unpack it.
