There was kind of moment,

especially I think after the Nazis,

in which like scientific biological racism

was kind of stigmatized at a broader level.

There has been a taboo and I think it's now being pretty thoroughly undone by the

contemporary right. I mean it never went away as you said like I suspect it was

just something the right didn't talk about for a long time.

Like it was under Reagan, right, that the Martin Luther King Jr.

holiday was signed into effect.

You can almost see that as like this begrudging move from more respectable conservatives to kind of

concede something to that political doctrine like some kind of multicultural

melting pot equality was going to be the official story of America

that the right was going to concede to.

And so to me this reversion to biological racism at one level it is a departure from at least the superficial

public not behind closed doors settlements that some elements of the right seem to sign on to

by the 80s just because it was too much of a millstone around their neck.

How could you hate Dr. King?

Right, right?

In the sanitized version that he came to hold in our memory.

Like I remember when I was in Internet Heritage, the line was actually

MLK's kind of a conservative. And the right was going to be like, we're actually the faithful

heirs of Dr King's color-blind vision, right?
