Summary

If you are around progressive thinkers and teachers much you will probably have heard them say, "God didn't demand a sacrifice, we did!" The problem with this quotable and heartwarming phrase is that it's terribly unbiblical and would have been rejected by Jesus and all the apostles. As it should be by us. 0:00 intro 0:18 to SKIP intro This clip is from a recent interview I did on Alisa Childers' channel. I took that interview and broke it down into topical videos dealing with the 23 different claims made by the "progressive Christian" Ragamuffin TV. You'll see a new video EVERY DAY until the whole series is uploaded. Here's a link where you can see EVERY video in this series (as they go up) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3iRMLYFlHstu7p_vncGknpVhWp9uxc1 Here are the links to the long form interviews which are on Alisa's channel Part 1 https://youtu.be/wVLLuyN-Ezo Part 2 https://youtu.be/CoBW3LY8xiw

You're watching one of a series of videos where Elisa Childers and I respond to 23 progressive Christian claims,

0:07.0

kind of like a progressive Christian manifesto that was written by Ragamuffin TV.

0:11.9

We deal with these claims, some good, some bad, some ugly, and I'm hoping

0:16.4

that this helps you to think biblically. Number 19 says, why would a God who says says I desire mercy not sacrifice later decide to

0:27.0

kill his own son as a sacrifice he wouldn't God didn't demand a sacrifice we did did. This is a big one in the progressive Christian church.

0:35.8

I hear this in different iterations all over the place in books and blogs and podcasts.

0:41.9

This is a very core ten I think of the progressive church how would you respond?

0:47.0

Well okay at the risk of sounding rude and I wouldn't do this in public in public everything's rude but in private I would I would want to ask the person do you do you care about the context of Jose a six six

1:00.9

Do you care what Jose a meant when he wrote these words and I just want them to say yes because they have to how can they not care and then and then say let's look at it and if you read Josea and I mean I wouldn't mind just reading the whole book with them if they'll wait

1:13.7

But if they'll just read Josea then they'll see the people of Israel were living in rebellion to God

1:18.9

Yet they were still offering sacrifices, but great rebellion, apostasy, false beliefs, and false practices.

1:25.8

And so God says, I'm going to cut off your sacrifices,

1:28.5

I'm sick of it.

1:30.0

And when he says, I desire mercy, not sacrifice,

1:32.3

what he means is, I want you to follow me.

1:34.7

Don't just offer these sacrifices and think everything's fine.

1:39.6

And so he cuts off their sacrifices.

1:41.0

Then later in Jose, God predicts that there's a time coming when he'll restore

1:44.3

sacrifices to Israel and they will be pleasing to him.

1:47.5

So even in hossa, God just doesn't want

1:51.0

empty religious behaviors. He wants hearts that are after him.

1:54.5

But guess what, that still includes sacrifice.
