0:28.0	Nearly 4. Redmond. You're listening to The Daily Crime. Nearly 45 years ago, the bodies of a man and woman were discovered shot to death on the side of a highway in Sumter County, South Carolina.
0:33.3	Deputies say they were hitchhikers, but were found murdered along I-95 in August of
0:37.7	1976. It was very shocking for something like that to happen here in Sumter. It was almost
0:45.8	unfathomable. You know, you just, you wouldn't think something like that would happen.
0:50.4	And you just, you just wondered why and who.
0:55.2	It's a case that stumped local investigators
0:57.8	who've worked on it over the years.
0:59.7	Daddy didn't bring his work home with him,
1:01.8	but on certain cases, you knew that his heart hurt,
1:08.2	and I knew his heart hurt for these two young people.
1:13.3	He just wanted closure for them,
1:15.2	even though he knew that their families didn't have it.
1:17.5	But finding their killer wasn't the only challenge for investigators,
1:21.6	who, for over four decades,
1:23.3	were unable to identify the two victims.
1:26.2	That is, until earlier this year.
1:29.0	Tonight, after more than 44 years, an unsolved mystery out of Sumter County is a mystery no more.
