Welcome to the for Life where today we're starting a series to help us prepare our hearts for Easter by focusing on the account of Jesus' crucifixion in the Gospels.

0:33.7

We'll begin as Jesus is being betrayed and is abandoned by his disciples in the shadows of the Garden of Gatsimony.

0:41.6

It's a well-known story for many, but Alastair Begg warns us not to let the familiarity dull its impact.

0:53.6

I invite you to turn with me to the Gospel of Mark and to Chapter 14, and we'll read from

1:00.5

verse 41. And in a moment of two or two, as we turn to this study, I actually want us to begin

1:09.9

just by looking in Acts chapter 8. We're going to

1:13.5

read Mark 14. We're going to begin in Acts 8. We're going to turn back quickly to Mark 14 again.

1:18.8

And if that's too much information, just don't worry about it at all. Mark chapter 14.

1:26.2

Verse 41, and he came, that is Jesus came the third time and said to them,

1:30.9

are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough. The hour has come. The son of man is

1:37.9

betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand. And immediately, while he was still speaking,

1:49.3

Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests

1:55.3

and the scribes and the elders. Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying,

2:07.1

The one I will kiss is the man, seize him, and lead him away under guard.

2:12.6

And when he came, he went up to him at once and said rabbi, and he kissed him.

2:15.7

And they laid hands on him and seized him.

2:19.1

But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. And Jesus said to them,

2:24.4

Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to capture me?

2:30.4

Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the scriptures

2:37.1

be fulfilled, and they all left him and fled. And a young man followed him with nothing but a

2:43.9

linen cloth about his body, and they seized him. But he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. Amen. A brief prayer as we turn to the Bible.
