The world's fourth largest carmaker is looking for a new CEO. From Marketplace, I'm Sabri Beneshore,

in for David Brancaccio. Stalantus is the European parent company of American brands Jeep, Ram,

Dodge, and Chrysler. Its CEO, Carlos Tavares, has quit after the company revealed its sales and

profits have plunged.

That's after flying high for a few years.

What are these problems at Stalantis?

Well, in many ways, there are wider auto industry problems, right?

Stalantis is one of the global brands that analysts say are reporting

lower sales than expected consumer appetites are down for high-priced vehicles, which has meant

more discounting. Now, in this environment, Stalantis' CEO Carlos Tavares, has faced criticism

from dealers and the United Auto Workers Union of responding too slowly to these changes,

maintaining higher prices, focusing too much on cutting costs.

And a lot of consumers, including in North America, moved on to other brands.

Stalantis has reported declining market share over the last couple of years.

And that's remarkable because we're talking about Jeep and RAM vehicles, Sabri,

which have been among the

most popular in the U.S. market.
