I'm Ellie Corporn. At the very dawn of cinema,

women were pioneers. They invented technology and shaped the way that film was made.

But as money began to be pumped into the industry and Hollywood, as we know it was forged,

women were pushed out. And it's been a battle ever since.

This is a story that Helen O'Hara charts in her new book, Women vs Hollywood.

And I spoke to her to find out more.

What are some of the biggest issues that women in the film industry, both on camera and behind the camera,

have faced over the last 100 years or so?

Well, that's a whole book.

No, it's basically, it's been a struggle because I think in the early days in the silent era,

there were women who were able to be studio heads, directors, producers, writers, you name it.

And they were able to succeed. But as studio became more of an industry and as the big money man
