Summary

In the years and months before the liberation of Europe and D-Day, the female agents of SOE played an integral and highly dangerous role in undermining Nazi rule. Many paid the ultimate sacrifice, often alone and in horrific circumstances - including Noor Inayat Khan, 'The Spy Who Never Lied.' Join James Holland and Al Murray as they talk to SOE expert, Clare Mulley, on a thrilling series about the extraordinary women of SOE in an epic, but overlooked, part of WW2 history. 0:53.5

It's all in the book.

0:54.0

Great. I mean, it's an incredible story Jim. You're looking daggers. No no no not at all. I just

0:58.9

really remember very very clearly when I was back in episode of previous life when I worked in

publishing. I got rung up by someone who gave me half an hour of incredible detail about his

1:10.5

affair with Christina and then started

1:13.5

and then started going on about what had happened to her did he also talk to you about her

1:18.0

achievements or was it just a fair and death no because he had read the last biography of her much

1:24.0

poorer biography than your one and and had a whole load of beef of it.

1:29.3

Oh, good. Well, in the defence of the last biographer, a lot of the files weren't open when it was

1:33.4

written, and I applied under the Freedom of Information Act and got many more files that had never

1:37.9

been out there before, but also managed to interview a whole lot of people. So, I mean, I have to say,

1:42.5

it was a real adventure of researching that, but it was also a real privilege, you know, to tell that story in full.

1:47.9

Well, you've done it amazingly well. Yeah, yeah. Right. So we'll leave that.

1:51.8

Dangling still. We talked about F section in the last episode, didn't we?
