| 0:00.0 | Today I'm renewing your mind. Have you ever wondered what God has in store for you? |
| 0:04.7 | The only way you're going to know that hidden will of God for you today is to wait until tomorrow. |
| 0:14.7 | Tomorrow will make clear to you what the hidden will of God was for you today. |
| 0:22.7 | Well when we do fight ourselves in difficult situations we often cry out with a slight amount of panic. |
| 0:34.8 | What should I do now? And we wish that God would just answer us. |
| 0:39.1 | But when we consider the will of God we need to make a distinction between God's revealed will and his hidden will. |
| 0:46.8 | Here's our teacher, our C. Sprawl. |
| 0:49.6 | Several years ago we had a radio program, a little five minute vignette, entitled Ask RC in which the whole format was of my answering questions that people wrote in or called in during the taping of this program. |
| 1:13.0 | And we kept track of the questions that people asked and the number one question that we heard more often than any other was the question, how can I know the will of God for my life? |
| 1:28.9 | So obviously people who are earnest in their Christian faith and who understand that God is sovereign and who want to live a life in obedience to Him want to know what it is that God wants them to do. |
| 1:48.3 | And when people ask me that question I usually go into a lengthy discourse on the various meanings of the term will of God in scripture and they say when you want to know what God's will is I want to know what will you talking about. |
| 2:06.6 | But before I go into those things let me turn your attention to a statement that we find in the book of Deuteronomy. |
| 2:15.1 | The 29th chapter verse 29. |
| 2:19.8 | And this is a text that I think we all need to be aware of particularly when we're struggling over this question of the will of God for our lives. |
| 2:31.4 | It reads as follows the secret things belong to the Lord our God but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever that we may do all of the words of this law. |
| 2:54.4 | Now where this is found in scripture is very important the book of Deuteronomy is the second book of the law as it were and there has been now a recapitulation of the entire law that has been delivered by Moses from God to the people. |
| 3:15.0 | And at the conclusion of this account of the giving of the law we find this text that makes a distinction between the hidden will of God and the revealed will of God and let's take a moment on those. |
| 3:32.1 | The reformers Luther in particular talked about the difference between what was called the deus absconditus. |
| 3:42.9 | And the deus revolotis. Now we've already talked about this in another perspective saying with regard to our limits of our knowledge of God that we don't have a comprehensive knowledge of God. |
| 4:02.7 | We talked about the incomprehensibility of God saying that God has not revealed to us everything that could possibly be known about Him or about His intentions for the world. |
| 4:17.8 | And so that which we recall is unrevealed the hiddenness of God is called the deus absconditus that which God has run away from and is hidden from us. |
| 4:30.9 | And yet at the same time we are not left totally in the dark to grope after our understanding of God. It's not like God has in fact run away and is completely in hiding and is not disclosed anything to us about Himself. |
