So my daughter just had her six birthday and I was thinking about how before I became a mother,

I thought about it for about five years before going ahead and deciding to do it.

And so in the course of that I had a lot of conversations about it with friends who were parents,

friends who weren't. I made a lot of Google documents. I wrote about my fears around division

of labor, firstslate.com and other places. I made pro and conless. I tried to talk to my husband

about many, many possibilities which he was mystified by, frankly. One time I remember I was talking

to a friend who was turned out to be the first one in our friend group to have kids. Totally

lovely woman, a great mom whose son also kept me up all night at one tightly packed house party.
