39-year-old Vito Piletsky quickens his pace as he runs through the back streets of the city.

Warsaw is quiet.

The city has been occupied by Nazi Germany for almost a year, and they rule with an iron fist.

Slipping down an alleyway, Vytold emerges onto a main road.

A row of German military vehicles blocks a street.

Soldiers escort groups of cowed-looking civilians toward the trucks,

shoving them roughly on board.

Closer to Vito, more locals stand huddled beside the road,

waiting their turn.

It's a roundup.

Almost at random, the Germans are grabbing

Polish civilians off the street.

They'll all be searched and interrogated,

and most of them will be carted off to concentration camps.

One of the poles being herded toward the trucks isn't moving fast enough for a German soldier's liking.

He rams the butt of his rifle into his back and the man drops to the ground.

Kick to the ribs swiftly follows and that gets the man moving a bit faster.

He scrambles across the street toward the truck on his hands and knees and the Germans all laugh
