The American economy surprises again.

In the last three months of last year, the economy grew an annual rate of 3.3%.

That's the Commerce Department's initial estimate of fourth quarter

GDP growth. And it's better than economists expected, although it is as expected, not as

robust as the previous quarter when GDP growth was at a blistering 4.9%.

The Federal Reserve has been cooling the economy down to bring inflation under control.

The Biden administration is releasing $5 billion from the infrastructure

law for improvements throughout the country. It will fund 37 projects.

One billion dollars will go to replace a critical bridge in Wisconsin, a state that's

projected to be a key battleground in the upcoming election. During the same period

that the economy kept humming, Southwest, and American Airlines struggled.

Americans profits fell sharply to just $20 million.

Southwest lost $220 million in earnings reports both blamed one-time bonuses for

pilots.
