Music Welcome to the politics, guys. I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University.

My guest today is historian Ray Raphael, author of, if my count is right, 21 books now,

including founding myths, constitutional myths, and the recently released annotated guide to

the U.S. Constitution, which I have a copy of right here in front of me, in fact,

today. And it sits a really nice thigh in this great format. You can really just about slip it

into your pocket if you want. I've really enjoyed reading through it. And so I'm really pleased

to be able to talk with Ray about it today. So, Ray, welcome to the show. Well, pleased to be

talking with you, Mike.

So I thought I'd start just with a pretty straightforward question. Why an annotated guide

to the Constitution? You know, what prompted you to write this book? Well, there was a very

definite event, and it's an event that a lot of people will be able to recall.

At the Democratic National Convention, Khazir Khan, the Gold Star father, took out his pocket

edition of the Constitution, waved it in the air, and said, Mr. Trump, I think you should read this.

Instantly, the Constitution became a bestseller.
