Summary

Do you know what the Welsh flag has on it and why it came to be like it is? Storyteller and Comedian Tiernan Douieb tells us the story behind the Welsh flag. 0:36.4	Because I had a day off this week to watch the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, it
0:42.2	was all very grand. There were lots of visitors from all over the world and lots of flags
0:49.2	representing their different countries. The story this week is all about a flag and how
0:55.4	it came to be and that flag is the Welsh flag. It's told by Tienen Duyeb whose grandad
1:03.8	was from Wales. Tienen is a storyteller and a comedian. That means he makes people laugh
1:12.0	what a lovely job. So since this story is about Wales, here's some fun facts. Wales is
1:20.9	a country in the southwest of Britain. It has lots of sheep. In fact, there are more sheep
1:28.0	than people in Wales. Wales has lots of castles, more castles per square mile than any other
1:34.8	country in Europe. Wales has its own language, Welsh, so it's a bilingual country. That
1:42.4	means there are two languages spoken in this country, in this case Welsh and English.
1:50.1	The children's writer, Roald Dahl, was born in Wales and his children grew up there.
1:56.7	The Welsh people are very fond of the game of rugby and of singing. Now, just before we
2:03.5	start our story, can you think of any flags which you know? And if that's too tricky,
2:10.3	how about having a think about what you'd put on a flag if you were making one for your
2:15.7	family? What colours would you make your family flag? And what would you put on it, mountains
2:22.3	or rivers where you live? Or a picture of your house? Or your pets? And we'll have a quick word
