Summary

November 16, 1982. An abandoned SUV is discovered in the middle of a desolate Wyoming prairie and numerous possessions are scattered all over the highway. The vehicle belongs to Don Kemp, a former New York City ad executive who has left his old life behind and vanished without a trace. In spite of an extensive search of the area, it is four years before Don’s skeletal remains are found on the prairie. However, five months after Don originally disappeared, one of his friends allegedly received a series of bizarre phone calls from him. Did Don die of exposure shortly after abandoning his vehicle? Or was he killed elsewhere before his remains were somehow returned to the prairie years later? Join me for a new episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, as I analyze the very first case to ever be featured on “Unsolved Mysteries”. All music is composed by Vince Nitro.

I am your host Robin Warder and today I will be covering a case which was featured on this

podcast's all-time favorite TV show Unsolved Mysteries.

1:29.7

In fact, it's a piece of television history as this was the very first case ever featured

1:35.3

on the very first episode of Unsolved Mysteries. I've actually had numerous requests to

1:40.5

cover this story from the folks on the Unsolved Mysteries message board at the sitcoms

1:45.3

online forum, so your wish is my command.

1:50.1

Even though this is the one that got Unsolved mystery started, I didn't actually see this particular

1:55.1

segment until decades after it aired.

1:58.1

I came across it on YouTube a while back, you know, back in the good old days when unsolved mystery segments

2:04.7

were actually allowed to be posted on YouTube and instead of hearing the

2:08.8

iconic voice of Robert Stack I was quite surprised to see Raymond Burr hosting and narrating the segment.
