Herndon, Virginia.

The parents of 21-year-old Tommy Berkett returned home to find him dead in his bedroom.

The apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When police arrive, Tommy's parents are immediately taken aback by their suspicious behavior

and notice strange discrepancies to make them think their son did not commit suicide.

Upon further investigation, they find evidence to suggest Tommy might have been murdered

for doing undercover work with the Drug Enforcement Administration and then a massive cover-up

surrounding his death. After that, the trail went cold.

Scott Owings and it's a great choice because I've been wanting to cover this story for a while.

The Suspicious 1991 Suicide of Tommy Brickett.

The case was featured on Unsolved Mysteries and was one of their many stories about a victim whose death was officially ruled to be a suicide by the authorities,

but their loved ones uncovered enough suspicious discrepancies to make them believe there was foul play.

Sadly, in some of these cases, it seemed apparent the authorities' original suicide ruling was probably correct
