The daughter of 47-year-old Janice Westinger returns home to discover that her mother is missing.

The following morning, Janus's body is discovered in a wooded area near her house,

and she has been raped and stabbed to death.

It is theorized that Janus was attacked after going out for a walk the previous morning,

but her killer is never identified,

and the crime remains unsolved.

The 1997 Murder of Janice Westinger

This episode is special because I'm covering this case at the direct request of Janice's daughter Tamara Smith-Hurber, who has been searching

for answers about who killed her mother for the past two decades. At the time this crime took place,

Tamara was living with Janice, who may have been attacked and murdered during

a morning walk while her daughter was still at the house. Tamara soon left for work, but when she

returned home that night, her mother was not there, and Janice's body would be discovered

in a nearby wooded area later that morning. Tamara helps run a Facebook page called

Janice Westinger help us find her murderer, and has become frustrated over the apparent

lack of effort from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office to solve this case.
