21-year-old Sydney Land, in her 20-year-old boyfriend, Nia Maya, Nia Kaufman,

are found shot to death inside Sydney's apartment. An alleged pimp named Shane Valentine is a person

of interest as he had threatened a couple and fired a bullet in the home of Nia's mother weeks

earlier. Allegations eventually emerge that Sydney and Nia's murderer might be tied to a scandal

involving police corruption and sex trafficking and that a cover-up has been orchestrated

to prevent this crime from being solved. After that, the trail went cold.

Hello everyone and welcome to a very special episode of The Trail Went Cold.

I'm your host Robin Warder and today we're going to explore a particularly horrific crime,

the 2016 murders of Sydney Land and Nia Kaufman. This story is being covered at the request of Sydney's

mother, Connie Land, who has spent the last three years fighting diligently to keep the case in

the spotlight. I first met Connie at CrimeCon back in June of this year when she came up to my

booth on podcast row and handed me a booklet containing all the details of her daughter's story.

She was handing out these booklets to a number of people at the event in order to spread awareness

and the case has already been featured on multiple true crime podcasts. It took me a while to start

researching this story but it turned out to be a much larger rabbit hole than I expected
