Summary

March 18, 1990. Augusta, Georgia. Fifteen-year old twin sisters, Jeannette and Dannette Millbrook, are heading back to their family’s apartment when they decide to stop off at a gas station to buy some food. After leaving the store, the twins never return home and vanish without a trace. Over the next two decades, the twins’ family would be trapped in a trapped in bureaucratic nightmare, as law enforcement would inexplicably close the case without informing them. The disappearance would not receive a proper investigation or any media coverage for 23 years! This week’s episode of The Trail Went Cold is our most important one yet, as we were personally contacted by Jeannette and Dannette’s half-sister, Shanta Sturgis, who asked us to cover their story. Please check out the Charley Project profile pages for Jeannette and Dannette Millbrook, which contain their vital statistics, age-progressed photographs, and contact info for the proper authorities should you happen to have any information: http://charleyproject.org/case/jeannette-latressa-millbrook http://charleyproject.org/case/dannette-latonia-millbrook Also, click here to hear an interview with Shanta Sturgis on an episode about this case from the true crime podcast, “Thin Air.” Additional Reading: https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/08/16/dannette-jeannette-millbrooks-missing_n_3762972.html The Trail Went Cold is produced and edited by Magill Foote. 1:17.0

I am your host Robin Warder and the case I'm covering today is going to be a very special one because the victim's family actually

1:25.1

requested that I feature their story on my podcast. A few months ago I was

1:29.8

contacted by a woman named Shontay Sturgis.

1:33.2

Twenty six years ago, Shontay's two half-sisters,

1:36.2

Janette and Danette Millbrooks, went missing at the exact same time.

1:40.8

Janette and Danette also happened to be 15-year-old twins so you think the uniqueness of this particular situation might have brought this case ample attention.

1:49.0

But unfortunately, the exact opposite happened.

1:53.2

To say that law enforcement failed this family in a big way would be a massive understatement.

This episode is going to be a bit different from my usual formula.

2:02.8

When selecting cases to feature on this podcast, I do like to search for stories which have a lot

2:07.3

of unique and mysterious details because it gives me a lot of material to talk about and potential theories to explore.

2:15.0

But that's not the case with the disappearance of the Milbrooks Twins.

2:18.8

These are two human beings who seemingly vanished into thin air.

2:23.1

It's hard to construct any detailed theories about what might have happened to them because

2:27.1

there is zero evidence to work with.
