Hello everyone. Today we have two big sci-fi

anniversaries that all released on the exact same day back in 1982. The first one we're

going to be talking about is the thing. It was a commission podcast by Sean, actually both of

these were commission podcasts by Sean, Sean Ray, old school ballman fan, of course the thing

directed by John Carpenter. The thing about both of these podcasts were re-releasing today at

Jim, because these podcasts are both roughly five years old. A lot of people probably haven't

known that we did these. Some of the older archive stuff is hard to access, so we like to re-release

some of these anniversaries. The thing that really stuck out and the one of the reasons I really

appreciate commission podcast is I would have never gone back and probably watched the thing

otherwise. Why would I watch a 40-year-old horror movie? It's hallmark was practical effects,

which in my mind is shitty, rubber stop motion, animation,

hairy house and skeletons, and this voyage is a sinbed and whatnot. I would have never thought

to something that old could both scare me and provoke some genuine thought.

What was wrong? Yeah, I had seen this movie before, so I knew the reputation and that kind

of blows my mind to hear you say, why would I go back and watch this stupid old thing? When I know

this is one of the high water marks of technology when it comes to physical effects.

Right. But you could say this thing about King Kong. That was landmark animation of its day,
