Today we'll start a new section of the Catholic Mass series.

We've spent some time looking at the history of the Mass, from the Old Testament to the Last Supper, onto the liturgical movement.

And in the next section, after this, we will be exploring the rubrics, the movements, the parts of the Mass,

all the things that we see and hear.

But the history, the prayers, the rubrics, all of them are interesting, but they mean nothing

if we don't understand the theology behind it all.

So, let's look deeply at the theology, the mystery of the Holy Sacrifice.

We'll start in this episode by asking some basic questions like, why is the sacrifice important, why are victim, priest, and offering all so difficult to understand and mysterious.

Because without the mystery, it's all just smells and bells.

it is wonderful to have you back again

and have you joining us from St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary.

How are things going as we approach the end of the liturgical year?

Oh, quite well here. We've got a clement weather and a generally large

seminary. We're at capacity capacity really, although at the moment they have their fall break where the whole community goes out together as a community.

And so it's actually quite quiet here at the moment.
