| 1:07.0 | which carried over to the 18th and 19th century artists' depictions of the pilgrims. |
| 1:11.9 | So what did the pilgrims actually wear? Historical records of pilgrims' clothing, |
| 1:17.7 | such as the passenger list of the Mayflower, wills which included descriptions of clothing, |
| 1:22.4 | and other such records, paint a very different picture than the late 17th century artists depicted. |
| 1:28.7 | For starters, the pilgrims didn't wear buckled hats, nor did they wear buckles on their |
| 1:32.8 | shoes or their waists. |
| 1:34.8 | Buckles were expensive and just not in fashion at the time. |
| 1:38.0 | They simply wore the much cheaper leather laces to tie up their shoes and hold up their |
| 1:42.3 | pants. |
| 1:43.3 | Buckles later became very popular in England for their expense and as a fashion statement. |
| 1:49.0 | Those who were too poor to afford buckles wore laces similar to the Pilgrims. |
| 1:53.0 | They also didn't only wear black and white. The pilgrim's common garb was very colourful, as was the fashion at the time. |
