I'm Josh Carney. All of the talk coming out of the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the

South Side regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers and

organized team activities so far is that there's a clear urgency, a competitive

environment, and a real intensity to work being done here in June. Much of that can be attested to the mentality

that head coach Mike Tomlin is reportedly bringing to the table with a young team.

Championship Asperation. bringing to the table with a young team, championship aspirations. Hearing that and considering the makeup of the Steelers roster currently, many undoubtedly

scoffed at Tomlin's belief that this team can and

should compete for a Lombardi this season. While they might be a year away from

being a year away from being a year away if they are going to truly compete in

2023 and try to achieve the ultimate goal of lifting the Lombardi Trophy. They are going to have to

figure out the September struggles this team has had historically under

Tomlin in September.

In Tomlin's 16-year tenure to date,

the Steelers are just 28, 25, and 1 in September,

including 2 and 4 in September, including two and four in the last two seasons in the season's opening month. After back to back seasons winning games on the road

to open the season over Cincinnati and Buffalo,

Pittsburgh has proceeded to lose three straight in 2021 and four straight in 2022,

putting themselves in a significant hole early in the season.

That can't happen in 2023, especially with a rather tough schedule early on.

Pittsburgh of course opens up at home against a tough San Francisco team.
