and Nick Herbig at Outside Linebacker in week 16 against the Detroit Lions. And yet, it was no

problem. Rookie fourth round picked Jack Sawyer, making his first career start and doing so against

all pro-Lines right tackle Penae Suo, had an above-the-line

performance and played a key role in the Steelers shutting down Detroit's run game.

Sawyer finished with five tackles, had a huge tackle for loss in a goal-to-go situation,

and even handled himself well in coverage.

The Ohio State product also generated four pressures

and earned plenty of praise from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after the performance.

I initially had issues with the selection back in April because it felt like it was a luxury

pick to address outside linebacker number four, rather than addressing another area of need.

But in the end, the Steelers know best. And Sawyer has been a huge complimentary piece defensively.

Though he still needs to work on his hand usage and develop some additional moves as a pass rusher,

he's already a stout run defender that plays hard in his assignment sound.

He has the feel of a Steeler through and through, and his performance against the Lions was very encouraging.

The arrow is very clearly pointing up, and the future looks bright for Captain Jack.
