very excited about the idea of Cooper Flag being here for a long, long time. And Kyrie

Irving is going to be here at least two, three more years because he decided to opt out of his

$43 million player option yesterday, which it's weird to hear that because you think, oh,

he's opting out. He doesn't want to be here. No, usually if you opt in, that means fine. I'm

going to play one more year and then I'm going to go elsewhere or force my way out.

Instead, he gets a new three-year deal worth $119 million.

And of course, he's coming off the torn ACL, so he won't be back until January, February.

His stepmother decided to negotiate this deal. I guess she sort of works as his agent.

She did a damn good job. She did. And considering people were expecting three for around 150 or so before the ACL, this is good value not only for him. It's a lot of money, nearly 40 million per year moving forward into the back half of his

30s. And the Mavericks have a star who is very good in the room now, an emotional leader,

a verbal leader, and somebody that can help usher along Cooper Flagg and keep in mind,

back in the day, Kyrie Irving went to Duke and he was also a one-one.

Man, you just have to love Kyrie Irving now.

And be damned what happened in Brooklyn, Boston, all of that.

And one of the reasons he did this is because he wants a legacy in Dallas.

It's a good deal for Kyrie.

He's going to be in his mid to late 30s when this expires. It's team friendly.

It puts the MAVs under the second apron now. Yep. So they get a little over $5 million for that

taxpayer exception, which we're going to talk about here in a minute. It's great business to

keep him around and keep him around long term.
