Before I launch into the message, three preliminary things.

They've been growing on me this morning.

Number one, this manuscript will be online in the next couple of days

so if you're scrambling to write something down you can just relax I think and you don't have to do that, you can just relax I think and you don't have to do that you can just listen and soak.

The second observation is this, these become increasingly serious to me.

My guess is that there are a lot of emergent types here who are quietly watching, looking, and came to see what we would say.

And I think what I want to say to you is that my son Carston turned 34 yesterday.

Makes me keenly aware.

That's, give or take a year, Mark Driscoll's age.

So I'm aware that I am now old enough

to be the father of probably half the people in this room, including those

of you who aren't seeing it our way.

And the way I want you to hear this is that I have known, I have tasted what it's like to have a son who's not where I want him to be and still be his father, deeply his father.

And that's kind of the way I feel about all of you.

A lot of you are not where I want you to be and I can still feel a very deep affection for you.

And so I want that to be the feel of this morning's talk. Finally, this was helpful. I just want to share

this, get this on the video to put it right behind my comment about Mark yesterday.

The fellow came up to me down here and said a most helpful exhortation.

And I want to share it with you because it's just so perceptive. He said, you know, you sounded

a warning that Mark can be in danger of exploiting his gifted cleverness and thus perhaps get it in the way of showing

that Christ is mighty to save. That was a quote from James Denny.
