0:22.9	leaders, selfish leaders, unwise leaders are one way God judges his people. Leadership, whether it's in a
0:30.2	family, a business, a nonprofit, a hospital, the military, the church, or government has a tremendous
0:35.8	impact on people's lives. Good leadership leads to wise
0:39.5	decisions and human flourishing, and bad leaders make foolish decisions that can do a lot of damage
0:45.7	in people's lives. Today we're going to think about what makes a good leader and bad leader
0:50.3	from Judges Chapter 9. At the end of Judges 8, Gideon has set up his hometown as a rival
0:56.0	place for worship. It seems that Gideon did this to encourage people to come to him for spiritual
1:01.0	guidance and to see his hometown as the place to find God. Judges 827 says, Gideon made the gold
1:08.2	into an ephod which he placed in Oprah, his hometown. All Israel prostituted
1:13.4	themselves by worshipping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family. God's leader
1:19.4	is supposed to point people to the true God, but Gideon points people to himself. Instead of serving
1:25.0	God, Gideon uses God to serve himself. That's the first thing about a good
1:29.6	leader. He or she puts God's interests above their own. A bad leader is one who has their own
1:35.5	agenda. A good leader in a family asks, what does my family need tonight? What does my family need for me
1:42.4	this weekend? A good leader in a business asks what their
1:45.9	employees or customers need. They consider the best interests of others ahead of themselves.
1:51.7	The bad leader, whether it's in a family or a business, is consumed with their own needs.
