and realizing that really this was something much, much worse.

There was a noticeable sort of draw a breath at the horrific nature of the throat injuries

because at that point it still wasn't necessarily obvious what we were dealing with.

And it was only in turning her over and seeing particularly the gaping

injuries to her throat just what we were dealing with.

This wasn't a typical murder and almost as shocking as the injuries inflicted was the identity of who wielded the life.
