On the 1st of October,

thousands of Indonesian football fans visited the Canjurahan Stadium to watch their beloved Arema football club

take on fierce rivals Persabaya.

Defeat for the home side led to a pitch invasion,

which then escalated as tear gas was fired onto the pitch and into the stands by police.

As hundreds of fans fled, several locked exits led to a crush. At least 131 people never returned home.
