I have something quite heavy for you this episode.

The story we're going to hear involves a raging house fire, three deaths, a dramatic

police takedown, and a successful use of the controversial NCR or not criminally responsible legal defense.

The story takes place in January of 2015 and a small community outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

And the unfortunate people who get to star in this tragedy are the Hennagers,

a close-knit family that had felt cornered by Canada's treatment of its mentally

ill long before its family members began to die.

The whole front row is missing from my life.

In January 2015 Chandler Henninger's life changed forever.

His brother Cody was suffering from untreated schizophrenia and killed their mother and maternal grandparents.

All I have is the picture, the memory and here.

Chandler says his family tried over and over to get Cody help through the mobile crisis unit and even

calling police but he says the help he needed never came. It really hurts because

you know it's sad and you see someone that really needs help you know that they're not a bad person and that they deserve that help and it's not being given to them

Tonight in this episode of nighttime. I'm going to take you along with me for a coffee and an emotional

talk with Chandler Heniger, the young man who has become the voice for the surviving members

of his family.
